Project Highlight:

New Life

A large number of homeless people live in the city of Semey, Kazakhstan. Our Enactus students at Kazakh Humanitarian Juridical Innovative University view this situation as an opportunity to help in a part of their community that is struggling. Their New Life project connects homeless people with employers, enabling participants with jobs and the ability to afford housing and a new life.

Impact(s): 24 homeless people with jobs and housing, 112 homeless people with financial support

What’s next: The team plans to expand the job placement options available in the program; in five years, the goal is to have 15 new partners and sponsors and the number of homeless people within the community decrease by 30%.

Get to Know Us:

Yerkezhan came to college and decided she wanted to be involved with an organization that was bigger than herself. After participating for three years with Enactus, she is about to go to Enactus World Cup for the first time as a presenter for her team. Becoming the Kazakhstan National Champion is the greatest outcome for her and her team. “Because of this, work in Enactus is the pleasure for me,” says Yerkezhan, an economics major who plans to graduate in 2018. “I didn’t meet any great problems which could not be solved.” Yerkezhan says she is looking forward to meeting interesting people, making friends and learning about other projects this year in London.  Yerkezhan came to college and decided she wanted to be involved with an organization that was bigger than herself. Aslan says his natural leadership traits led him to become President of his Enactus team. “I love to take responsibility. I love leading people,” says this finance major, who expects to graduate this year.  On a typical day as team President, he brainstorms solutions for problems faced by his city and country and meets with people within the community. His greatest success to date: his team becoming champion of the Kazakhstan Enactus National Expo in 2017. At Enactus World Cup this year, he says he hopes to get to know many interesting people and find as many partners and sponsors as possible for his team’s projects.
