Team enthusiasm and commitment to projects shine at competition

Almaty, Kazakhstan – Beyond taking pride in their successes using entrepreneurial action to empower those in need, D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan State Technical University can be pleased those efforts helped them capture the Enactus Kazakhstan National Champion title from a four-time winning team.
D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan State Technical University was named Enactus Kazakhstan National Champion at the Hotel InterContinental from among 28 competing teams. Their community outreach projects edged them past the Enactus team from the University of International Business, who were the national champions in 2006, 2007, 2011 & 2012. EKSU Enactus efforts ranged from the creation of a pine cone processing plant that transforms the materials into cedar oils and decorative tiles to a waste paper recycling effort. The paper, which is supplied for toilet paper production, generated jobs and more than one million tenge in product sales.
This year’s event was supported by many leading businesses, including Sat&Co, KPMG, KWC, Eurasian Bank, Akyl-Kenes and Logycom. The competition also gained the attention of multiple media outlets ranging from 24 KZ, NTK and Khabar television to Liter and Business Resource Magazine.
Sanzhar Bokayev,head of the Office for Youth Policy of Almaty; Oraz Jandosov, director of the RAKURS Center for Economic Analysis; and Lord Michael Hastings, global head of corporate citizenship at KPMG International were special guests at the competition. Hasting delivered the keynote addresses where he emphasized how the willingness to act was the biggest driver to for improvement in the world. He stressed that Enactus members were change-makers because of their dedication to action and making opportunities where others choose to be complacent.
