Here Come the Teams!
We’re still a few hours away from the official start of Enactus World Cup 2014 in Beijing, but if you happen to be walking around the China National Convention Center this morning, you wouldn’t know it.
Over the past few days, thousands of students from countries all over the world have landed in China, tired and jet lagged but full of excitement and anticipation for the experience they are about to have. They’ve come to proudly represent their country and share the incredible impact they’ve made in their communities over the past year. They’ve come to meet with like-minded students and learn about their countries and cultures, while celebrating their passion for making a difference through entrepreneurial action. And they’ve come to network with leading executives from companies around the globe who support their efforts and give their time to such an important cause.
Many of the teams gave themselves a few days before the event to explore Beijing and the surrounding area, and to take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity to visit China. We’ve seen all sorts of posts on social media and our mobile app from teams at the Great Wall, in Tiananmen Square, and visiting some of the Olympic venues. If you haven’t done so yet, visit our World Cup page to download our app so you can see all the posts and pictures. As they’ve made their way back to the Convention Center, they’ve been greeted by an incredible sight: escalators, columns and huge walls have all been branded with the words and images of Enactus, and you can’t help but feel excited when you see it all.
Registration is open, students, judges and observers are getting checked in, and the teams are setting up for the Culture Fair, one of the highlights of the World Cup. Imagine a room filled with enthusiastic young people from all over the world, meeting each other and asking questions about life in other countries. They are waving flags, sharing food, taking pictures together…there’s nothing quite like it, and we will share pictures soon. In just a few hours, everyone will gather together in Plenary Hall for the Opening Ceremony, which will start with the ‘My Dream, Our Dream’ special forum presented by our Host Organization, CPAFFC, followed by the Parade of Nations and the live drawing of leagues and timeslots for the Opening Round of Competition.
If you’re not in Beijing, be sure to visit enactus.org/worldcup to access our live stream, as well as find stored video footage, photos, league pairings, and competition results. The next few days are sure to be exciting, emotional and inspiring, and a reminder of the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world. We hope you’ll join us.
