The following is a guest blog post by one of our generous World Cup Event Sponsors, BIC Corporation. Read about their social responsibility initiatives and why they support Enactus.

During the upcoming Enactus World Cup in Johannesburg, South Africa, teams from all over the world will showcase how entrepreneurial action and shared innovation is transforming lives and creating a better future for all of us.

Through the development of socially responsible programs, Enactus teams are putting into practice many of the values that are essential to becoming successful business leaders. Values such as Ingenuity, Responsibility, Teamwork, Simplicity and Ethics are at the core of what BIC stands for.

As a global leader in the stationery products, lighters and shavers businesses, BIC is profoundly aware of the importance of making a difference through social responsibility initiatives. In fact, corporate social responsibility is part of our DNA at BIC and we actively support many international, national and local organizations that align with our values and share our passion to make a positive difference in the world – such as Enactus!

Two BIC initiatives that we are proud to highlight are:

A U.S. program called BIC Fight For Your Write, which was first introduced in 2014, is a passionate crusade to raise awareness about the importance of handwriting to a child’s development among parents, students and teachers. The program’s website (, also provides resources to teachers and parents that help support the development of writing skills.Through the BIC Fight For Your Write program, website visitors are asked to sign a pledge to encourage handwriting. BIC donates a pen or pencil to a school in need for each pledge received. In its inaugural year, BIC donated more than 100,000 writing instruments to U.S. schools in need and the company’s goal is to donate 200,000 writing instruments by the end of 2015.

A program in South Africa through which BIC will donate a pen to a disadvantaged child through READ Educational Trust when a consumer purchases select packages of BIC stationery products. Since this program launched in 2011, BIC has donated more than five million pens to disadvantaged children in South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Mauritius!

Programs such as those developed by Enactus teams and by companies who believe in the importance of social responsibility, will help to make significant, lasting change around the world.

BIC is honored to support Enactus in several countries around the world and is proud to be a sponsor of the 2015 Enactus World Cup in Johannesburg, South Africa.
