In addition to an ambitious sustainable development program, BIC is actively supporting other causes, such as empowering people through education, health and social services. Two initiatives that BIC is proud to highlight are:
- BIC Fight For Your Write, introduced in 2014, is a passionate crusade to celebrate handwriting and raise awareness about its importance to a child’s development among parents, students and teachers. We believe that handwriting should be fun and we’re proud to offer products that help promote kids’ creativity and confidence through self-expression. Through its Fight For Your Write mission in the United States, BIC has donated 350,000 writing instruments to classrooms in need throughout the country. In Canada, during August and September, BIC hosted its weekly handwriting challenge on BICFightForYourWrite.ca. For every submission received BIC donated $10 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada, a leading provider of quality after school and out-of-school programs for children and youth.
- play safe! be safe!® is a fire safety education program designed to help educators, parents and caregivers teach fire safety skills to young children. The program was launched in 1994 and consists of in-person workshops facilitated by Fireproof Children (a national fire safety education and prevention organization in the U.S.), a robust kit of resources and tools, and an interactive website of educational games and activities at playsafebesafe.com. In partnership with Fireproof Children, BIC has distributed more than 114,000 kits across the U.S. and Canada and has delivered nearly 190 workshops to communities in all U.S. states, Puerto Rico and every Canadian province.
At BIC, our team members across the world live the BIC Values of Ethics, Teamwork, Responsibility, Ingenuity and Simplicity.
