Enactus uOttawa alumni and students competed and captured investment on Dragon’s Den, a nationally syndicated TV show where aspiring entrepreneurs pitch businesses to investors for funding and support in business development.
The Growcer is a social enterprise that manufactures commercial-grade hydroponic farms for anyone who is interested in providing fresh and affordable produce locally. The project secured C$250,000 from Dragon’s Den for 30% equity in the enterprise.
Started in 2016 as a project out of the Enactus team at the University of Ottawa in Canada, The Growcer is now gaining momentum as business as a force for good, employing 9 people (4 FT, 5 PT), with annual revenues last year of just under $1 million. With a long-term goal of global expansion, students have built relationships with companies who have international reach and are working to expand across southern Canada through public and private institutions.
