From April through July, we took a journey around the world as we watched and cheered for the 869 Enactus teams who competed at 36 National Competitions. Each one of those teams spent hours preparing and practicing with the goal of not only being named their country’s national champion but also earning their chance to advance to one place – Beijing, China – and the opportunity to compete for the title of Enactus World Cup Champion. Over the last five months, our national champions have been busy preparing while we’ve been working to finalize event details, and in just two weeks, the wait will be over as the event begins.
We are proud of and thankful for the incredible support of our Host Organization, The Chinese Peoples Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), and the continued generosity of our Presenting Sponsor, KPMG. Both organizations have played a significant role in this event and their leadership has set the stage for an amazing Enactus World Cup 2014. This is the first time the event will be held in China and with an expected attendance of nearly 5,000 students, academic professionals, business executives and government leaders this will be the largest gathering ever of Enactus members from around the world. Hosting such a blockbuster crowd is possible because of the outstanding facilities of the China National Convention Center, which joins Exceptional Resources Group (XRG) as this year’s Co-Organizers.
Enactus World Cup 2014 kicks off on Wednesday, 22 October with the ever-popular Cultural Fair—sponsored this year by Bunge—where each participating Enactus country sets up a display to showcase their culture to the rest of the network while learning about their peers around the world. The exciting Opening Ceremonies that evening will start with a special forum called ‘My Dream, Our Dream’ presented by the CPAFFC, followed by the Parade of Nations and the live drawing of leagues and timeslots for the Opening Round of Competition. This session will be the first of more than 10 hours of the event available to watch live from around the world through our World Cup Live platform at www.enactus.org/worldcup.
On day two an anticipated 250 executives will evaluate the 34 competing teams within eight leagues of the Opening Round of Competition and together will select 16 teams to advance to the next round. Throughout the day attendees will also have the chance to learn more about our generous event sponsors during the World Cup Sponsor Fair. The Top to Future-Top sessions take place that afternoon, a unique opportunity for the top leaders of today and tomorrow to explore various social responsibility issues of global importance with each of these sessions being led by one of our Host Country Sponsors.
At 4:30 pm, all attendees will come together for the Action Leader Forum and Opening Round Awards Ceremony. If you can’t be there in person, be sure to watch the session at World Cup Live. The forum, moderated by Lord Michael Hastings, Global Head of Citizenship of KPMG International, will see a panel of top executives, including Doug McMillon, President and CEO of Walmart Stores, Inc., William Wang, CEO of Vizio, and Tom Gorman, CEO of Brambles discuss opportunities for taking meaningful action to address important global issues. Following the panel, the semi-final round teams will be announced and the live drawing of leagues and timeslots will take place. That evening, KPMG will host the Executive Reception and Dinner, an invitation-only event that provides a unique networking and engagement opportunity for our participating top-level executives.
The final day, Friday, 24 October, will begin with the 16 Semi-Final Round teams vying for a spot on the main stage as more than 200 executives determine which four will advance to the Final Round of Competition. At 1:00 pm, we’re back in the Plenary Hall for our second Action Leaders Forum and the announcement of the final round teams. At 3:00 pm, the top four teams in the world will present before a distinguished panel of nearly 100 global executives in hopes of being named the 2014 Enactus World Cup Champions. The Final Awards Ceremony will start at 5:30 pm and will include the presentation of the Global Champion Award and the Alvin Rohrs World Cup Championship Trophy. All three of these afternoon sessions are available for viewing on World Cup Live.
The event doesn’t end there: our Enactus World Cup 2014 Sponsors will be recognized at an invitation-only Sponsors Reception, and all attendees are invited to attend the After Party, hosted by The Home Depot. You can find the complete schedule of events in the World Cup section of enactus.org.
