Proudest moment from 2024: When one of our artisans, Asif Ji, who was previously earning a modest salary of 7-8k, achieved a remarkable milestone under Project Virasat. We helped him establish vital market linkages, and today, from a small village in India, he is selling his handcrafted goods abroad, generating a revenue of 10 million. Asif Ji holds Virasat in the highest regard, and seeing his family prosper and his work flourish has been a tremendous source of motivation for us.
Biggest challenge faced in the past year: To bring attention to the pervasive issue of cigarette butts, which often goes unnoticed or is dismissed as insignificant. We had to work hard to break the stigma and overcome the taboo associated with discussing this problem openly. Educating the public on the environmental impact of improper disposal and promoting responsible practices required persistent effort and innovative approaches. It wasn’t just about raising awareness; it was about changing mindsets and encouraging a shift towards more sustainable habits.
One word description: Family.
Featured Project: Project Leher
Project Leher is an end-to-end solution to irresponsibly flicked, toxic cigarette butt waste management. It aims to create a sustained collection chain and recycle cellulose acetate (core of the cigarette butt) into various tangents after detoxification. Smokers around the globe buy roughly 6.3 trillion cigarette butts that are thrown into the environment every year (that’s approximately 18 billion every day), making it the world’s most littered waste.
