Enactus is thrilled to announce the Race for Climate Action Top 5 Finalists!

The Race for Climate Action recognizes and mobilizes Enactus teams that tackle the climate crisis. The competition is sponsored by Intuit, and the winning teams will receive $30,000 USD for project scaling funding. Finalists were chosen from a field of 90 entries from 16 countries by an independent judging panel of sponsor employees, subject matter experts, and Enactus alumni.

Team projects advancing to the Race for Climate Action final round include:

  • BettaCoal, a smokeless and affordable cooking fuel developed by the Enactus student team from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Nigeria. BettaCoal is made from dried forest and agricultural waste materials (cow dung inclusive) to help low-income households, boarding schools, poulterers, and restaurants in Nigeria cut costs on cooking energy and preserve the planet by saving trees.
  • Zaraat, from the Enactus student team at Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, India, which aims to uplift the farming community by reducing postharvest losses through a self-sustaining social enterprise involving an affordable and eco-friendly storage solution and transportation infrastructure improvement.
  • Shrimati, an eco-friendly reusable sanitary napkin developed by the Enactus student team at Jamia Millia Islamia, India.  The sanitary napkin is created from natural banana and bamboo fibers as opposed to plastic materials found in many traditional female hygiene products.
  • Swabun, a waste management and community initiative from the Enactus student team at Ramjas College in India. Swabun slows the growth of landfills and limits the release of methane through a network of community composters.
  • Project Nawah from the Enactus student team at Dyal Singh College, India, aims to promote ethical consumerism and plastic elimination by teaching bamboo carving skills in marginalized communities. The project is aligned with India’s National Bamboo Mission.

Please help us in congratulating these teams in their achievement and wish them best of luck when they participate in the Race to Climate Action Impact Competition at #EnactusWorldCup this October.

World Races are just one of the ways that we work with Enactus students to fulfill our vision of creating a better, more sustainable world. In addition to the Race for Climate Action, there are three additional World Races—the 1 Race 4 Oceans, the Race to Rethink Plastic, and the Race to Feed the Planet. Learn more on Enactus+
