Azerbaijan | In action since 2006
Observing the gradual disappearance of the coppersmith trade in Azerbaijan, our Enactus team from Azerbaijan State University of Economics created a project to promote craftsmanship in their country. The Misker.az website offers goods created by Azerbaijani craftsmen, increasing the demand for beautifully hammered copper and iron wares and other handicrafts, and in turn, improving the livelihoods of the artisans who make them.
Impact(s): 11 craftsmen whose products are promoted
What’s next: Expanding opportunities and wages for craftsmen in the coppersmith trade; motivating more people to pursue the craft as a career.
This project advances these key Global Goals:
Past WC appearances
Ramil Jabbarov, Fuad Aliyev
Our proudest moment of the past year:
Creating a botanical garden in UNEC.
Biggest challenge from the past year:
The financial problems faced trying to go to Lahij village.
Team described in one word:
Before university, Arzu was interested in project management and was among the winners of the Intel Isef National Competition. She joined Enactus when the university team held a registration event. A member for one year, Arzu already serves as team Project Manager. “I learned how to create a new idea that is useful for humanity,” says Arzu, who plans to graduate in 2020 with a degree in finance. “Also, sometimes I lead our team, and it helped me learn leadership and management.”

Eshgin’s background in start-ups and business projects prepared him well for the Enactus team of UNEC. After two years as an Enactus member, he is the team Project Manager, which requires him to arrive on campus one to two hours early each day to work with his team. “Being the team leader of our university …helped me improve my leadership skills,” says Eshgin, an economics major who plans to graduate in 2019. He says he is hopeful that participating in EWC 2917 will enhance his experience in entrepreneurship.
